A Personal Betrayal
We are off to the Middle East in a few days, because, apparently, it’s not hot enough in NYC. We’ll be in Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon, doing the tourist thing, looking at lots of very old stuff, shooting way too many photos, and sweating profusely. I just checked the forecast, and, guess what: it’s hot there! Hot! Every day! Absolutely no chance of rain or clouds. Heat, heat, and more heat. I’ve heard it’s like being in a brick oven, but with sand.
Which explains why I recently did something I swore I’d never do: I bought a pair of linen pants. In my defense, my linen pants are black, slim-ish, and don’t have that infantile drawstring waist, but they are nevertheless linen. I imagine I’ll find a way to live with this betrayal.

Hello Jonathan and Kyra!!!
While you are in the Middle East do not tell them
about your Jewish Roots in Spain or on the McElroy side (Isaacks).
Will you be going down to Petra in Jordan or Damascus,Syria?
I understand from your dad that you were cooking Gumbo for the
Hurricane. Was it the Swamp People Special???
Take care of yourselves and enjoy your trip.
Uncle James
