Find the Chihuahua

This is Precious. She’s a Chihuahua. I know, I know: this space has previously been reserved for Abby, who is awesome and who is a pristine example of an English Bulldog. (She, Abby, is a big Manchester United supporter.)

But let us consider our wee south-of-the-border friend. First, her name is Precious, which, truly, is awesome. Precious is 12 or so years old, and, until just under a year ago, lived in Bridge City, Tex., with my grandmother. Well, Mama Anne died in Feb., but before she did, she ensured Precious would have a good home. In this case, with my folks in Omaha.

Now, my folks love them some dog. My brother and I grew up with Boston Terriers. This continued up through Roscoe, who was, well, retarded. Really. She had water on the brain. Also, no tail. And her eyes were all screwed up. And she was prone to seizures. And she ate special food. And her breath was rancid, at all times, no matter what. And sometimes she’d get confused and walk into walls. And her paws were strangely small, while her head was strangely large and bulbous. But, goddamn, she was cute. Anyway, the vet gave her six months, and she kicked around for ten years. Then there were a few dog-less years at my folks’ house.

Right: Enter Precious. Guess who owns the place. Hint: she’s got a shiny necklace, you betcha.
